Zach Johnston, J.D.
Attorney
Zach Johnston represents clients in intellectual property and corporate law matters throughout the business life cycle – from individuals initiating a start-up to multi-national corporations.
Zach earned his J.D. with honors and an L.L.M. in Intellectual Property from DePaul University College of Law in Chicago. He received his B.B.A. in Finance with a Minor in Energy Technology and Management from the Neeley School of Business at Texas Christian University.
Before attending law school, Zach worked in finance and risk for a multi-national software company where he gained experience in capital financing, corporate governance, and mergers and acquisitions. He chose to pursue law to help provide practical, business-minded solutions for innovative clients.
During law school, Zach received CALI Excellence Awards in Trademarks, Intellectual Property Licensing and Negotiations, Commercial Law, and Trial Advocacy.
He served as Editor-in-Chief of the DePaul Journal of Art, Technology, and Intellectual Property Law from 2019-2020. Zach also competed in the International Trademark Association’s Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court Competition, where his team earned second place in the Midwest Regionals and placed in the top 10 at the 2019 National Finals.
Zach has clerked for multiple high-growth start-ups, providing support in digital media, marketing, and data privacy matters. He also worked as a law clerk for a renowned trademark and intellectual property litigation boutique in Chicago and spent his final semester of law school working as a judicial extern to the Honorable Thomas M. Durkin, United States District Judge for the Northern District of Illinois.
